Fribourg Olympic’s history is rich in emotion. Basketball arrived in 1935 on the banks of the Sarine, under the colours of CAF (Club Athlétique de Fribourg). Later, two clubs were founded: Fribourg Basket in 1947, followed by Olympic Basket in 1949. A tough, relentless rivalry grew between the two sworn brothers for supremacy in the city of Fribourg, until 1955, when Olympic was promoted and took its place in the 1st division.
It was written—there could only be one: on April 27, 1961, the two clubs merged and Fribourg Olympic was born!! Since that historic date, Fribourg Olympic’s first team has played 61 LNA championships—61 seasons it has consistently left its mark on, as shown by the honours won.
In almost sixty years, Fribourg Olympic has made its mark on Swiss basketball history. In 2007 and 2018, the club achieved the treble—Swiss Championship, Swiss Cup and League Cup (SBL Cup)—and even the quadruple in 2022 with the Super Cup. On five occasions, Fribourg Olympic completed the double—Swiss Championship and Swiss Cup (1978, 1997, 1998, 2016, 2019).
