Contract extensions, new faces… the 2024–25 season is gradually taking shape. Following negotiations and discussions, Fribourg Olympic Basket (FOB) is delighted to announce the extension of contracts for two foreign players and the head coach, as well as the appointment of two new members of staff to the club.
Whilst some are already thinking about their summer holidays, Fribourg Olympic Basket is continuing its hard work and gradually shaping the plans for the upcoming 2024–25 season. At the end of the day, club president Pascal Joye announced four major developments concerning the coaching staff and the squad.
The club is honoured and delighted to announce that head coach Thibaut Petit’s contract has been extended until 2028. The reasons behind his decision, his goals and his vision for the future will be revealed in an exclusive interview published on the club’s website and social media channels tomorrow morning.
Still on the coaching front, having bid farewell to coach Patrick Pembele, who recently moved on to manage another SBL team next season, Fribourg Olympic has appointed Aner Levron to assist Thibaut Petit for the next two seasons. Having worked as an assistant coach for the Geneva Lions during the 2023–24 season, 39-year-old Aner Lev Ron knows the Swiss league well and will form the perfect partnership with Thibaut Petit.
On the administrative side, the club announced two weeks ago the departure of its General Manager, Corentin Reynaud, who will conclude his tenure at the end of the summer. Earlier this evening, his successor signed an open-ended contract with the Fribourg club, in an emotional moment.
He knows Fribourg Olympic very well, having played for FOB himself for six seasons from 2006 to 2012. The club is therefore pleased to welcome Oliver Vogt to its administration. He will officially take up his duties on August 1, 2024, in preparation for the upcoming season.
Holding a Master’s degree in Sports Management and having worked for FIBA, this former Olympian will know how to lead the administrative staff toward a promising future thanks to his professional experience, his passion for the game, and his motivation.
Lastly, two very positive pieces of news for the Fribourg club: the contracts of Eric Nottage and Cheikh Sane have been extended for the 2024–25 season.
The American point guard won over the St-Léonard crowd with his basketball IQ and offensive skills. Leading scorer for almost the entire championship, Nottage was a key part of the success of the 2023–24 season, and the club is proud to continue working with the American guard.
Likewise, the club is delighted to see Cheikh Sane return to Fribourg next season. The 32-year-old Senegalese player also earned an important place in the roster thanks to his athletic qualities and leadership. His role was decisive in the outstanding season the team delivered.
The fact that these two foreign players are staying with Fribourg Olympic will allow the team to continue its progress and build on the continuity of the work already accomplished during the past season.
As a result, Fribourg Olympic Basket is more or less already complete and is looking forward to starting next season with excellence and humility, two of its core values, while also relying on a united team, a versatile coaching staff, and a strong administration.
