Fribourg Olympic Basket announces the departure of Matteo Smith and the arrival of Emmanuel Kupa within its roster.
Despite having a contract that was still valid, Matteo Smith, a 21-year-old inside player, and the club have decided by mutual agreement to end their collaboration. This decision was made with the aim of allowing the player from Schaffhausen to obtain more playing time in the SB League next season.
Having arrived at Saint-Léonard two seasons ago, Matteo Smith has always shown an exemplary attitude, whether on the court, on the bench or in the locker room. Fribourg Olympic Basket would like to sincerely thank him for his commitment, professionalism and impeccable attitude during his time at the club.
The club will continue to closely follow his development and wishes him every success for the rest of his career.
At the same time, Fribourg Olympic Basket is pleased to announce the signing of Emmanuel Kupa for the next two seasons.
The 20-year-old from Bern stands 1.90 m tall and is part of the Swiss junior national teams. During the 2024–2025 season, he played with the National Centre of Swiss Basketball, the CNBS, in Ligue B. Held back last season by a ruptured cruciate ligament in his right knee, Emmanuel Kupa recently resumed individual training at Saint-Léonard.
His arrival reflects the club’s desire to invest in young Swiss talents with strong potential, while supporting them in their sporting and physical development.
Fribourg Olympic Basket is delighted to welcome Emmanuel Kupa to its roster and wishes him a warm welcome to Saint-Léonard.
